DIGITAL MEDIA STUDIES
While creating the logo for the Digital Media Studies department at University of Rochester, I asked myself what is Digital Media Studies? There's no particular answer to this question. Some might associate it with solely technology, while others see digital art. Therefore, I took that uncertainty as the beginning point.

BRAINSTORMING
I started from asking several people about their associations with Digital Media Studies (DMS). Some of the words were: futuristic, friendly, collaborative and innovative.
VISUALIZING
After mapping out the words, I spend some time on drawing out what I think of, when come across the chosen words. I was looking forward to implementing the font used in DUNE (2021), since for me it felt very futuristic. For the main colors I chose blue and purple, since they both stand for intelligence, rationality and mind.

FINALIZING
This was one of the first versions that I had, in which I used the desired font. However, after showing the the logo to several of my classmates, one of the major things they pointed out was the confusing font. I searched for another font, which would have looked as futuristic as the first one, but less distracting.
RESULT
In the middle of the logo are arrows, moving upwards. The arrows also look like camping tents or mountains or, perhaps, even spaceships. All of that fits perfectly with the concept of constant innovation and, at the same time, the ambiguity of the term Digital Media Studies.
